Classroom: Smartboard TVs Quick Reference Guide
Turn On the Smartboard TV
- Turn on the TV using the power button on the front of the TV or the remote.
- If needed, select Input on the TV to choose the connected classroom laptop or other device.
- If you get lost while navigating the Smartboard menus, press the Home button on the remote or front of the TV to return to the Home screen.
Connect a Laptop
For full Smartboard functionality, use the USB-C/USB-A connections available at the podium.
The HDMI connection can be used to display your computer but does not provide touchscreen functionality.
For HyFlex classes, connect your laptop at the podium to ensure full audio and video functionality.
Audio
If you want audio to play through the Smartboard TV:
- Open the sound settings on your laptop.
- Select SB Speakers as the audio output.
Wireless Connection
Instructors and guests using Blue Ridge laptops can also connect wirelessly using SMART Mirror.
See the Smartboard wireless connection instructions for setup information.
Audio is not available through the SMART Mirror connection.
Using the Touchscreen and Whiteboard
Whenever possible, use applications on the connected computer rather than applications built into the Smartboard TV. Computer-based applications provide better options for saving and sharing your work.
When using a whiteboard application on your computer, select the pen tool before you begin writing on the Smartboard.
IT recommends Microsoft Whiteboard.
If you begin writing without selecting the pen tool, SMART Ink may automatically activate and interfere with the application you are using.
SMART Ink can be disabled from the menu in the upper-right corner of the Smartboard TV.
Saving Your Work
Save your work to the connected laptop.
USB ports on the Smartboard TV are disabled for storage access.
Do not rely on the Smartboard itself to store files you need to keep.
Presentations
If you use a presentation remote to advance slides, bring your normal presentation remote with you.
The Smartboard TV remote controls the TV but does not function as a presentation remote for your slides.
When You Finish
Use the Clean Up function from the Smartboard Home screen at the end of class.
This removes your files and resets the Smartboard for the next user.
Cleaning the Smartboard
Clean the Smartboard touchscreen using only a soft cloth and water.
Do not use chemicals or other cleaning products on the screen. Cleaning chemicals can damage the touchscreen.
