After you have followed these steps to export your individual VPN authentication certificate, you can follow the steps below to import that certificate onto a computer.
How to Import Certificate into a Microsoft Windows Based Computer
1. Locate the certificate file
- One Drive: If you exported your certificate to your Microsoft OneDrive folder, you can access your OneDrive either from Microsoft Windows File Explorer or you can open a web browser and navigate to https://onedrive.com and login using your current BRCC username and password.
- USB Thumb Drive: Plug the USB drive into the target computer and confirm that the drive is mounted and accessible.
- Email: If you emailed the certificate file to yourself, login to your email account and download the certificate file
2. Once you have located the PFX certificate file, while you are logged into the computer with your own user account, simply double-click the PFX file.
Windows should automatically open a certificate import wizard. In general, you can leave all the default values with one exception - you should check "Mark this key as exportable".
3. Click through the Certificate Import Wizard:
- Select "Current User" click next
- Enter the password for your certificate file and check the "Mark this key as exportable" and ensure the "Include all extended properties' box is also checked then click next
- Select "Automatically select the certificate store.." click next
4. At this point, you should see an import successful message. Once you see this message you are finished with this process.
Ensure "Current User" is selected.
Enter the password for your certificate file and check the "Mark this key as exportable"
How to Import your Certificate onto a Mac OS Computer
1. Login to your Mac computer using your assigned user account.
2. Locate the certificate file
- One Drive: If you exported your certificate to your Microsoft OneDrive folder, you can access your OneDrive either from the Mac OS finder (if BRCC IT staff installed installed the OneDrive program onto your Mac) or you can open a web browser and navigate to https://onedrive.com and login using your current BRCC username and password.
- USB Thumb Drive: Plug the USB drive into your computer, confirm that the drive is mounted and accessible, copy the certificate file to your Desktop, Documents, or Downloads folder on your Mac.
- Email: If you emailed the certificate file to yourself, login to your email account and download the certificate file
3. Import the certificate into your Mac OS keychain
- By default, most Mac's will automatically start the correct keychain import wizard if you simply double-click on your certificate PFX file.
- If double-clicking on the file doesn't trigger the import, then follow these steps to import the certificate. It's possible that this will require administrator permissions. If it does prompt for administrator permission, please contact IT at [email protected].
4. You have completed this process once the certificate has successfully been imported into your Mac key chain
