Windows Desktop and Laptop G and H: Drive Access
Before following these steps, ensure you are connected to the network. For desktops, this requires a wired connection. For laptops, you must be on the employee Wi-Fi.
Accessing Your G: Drive
1. Open Windows Explorer:
- Press the Windows key + E or double-click the folder icon on the taskbar to open Windows Explorer.
2. Locate Your G and H Drive:
- On the left sidebar, expand the drive list by clicking the arrow next to "This PC."
- Find your name in the G and Workgroups in H Drive listed under "This PC"
If you do not see a G drive with your username, please ensure you’re connected to the network, either through a wired connection or the employee Wi-Fi. If the drive still does not appear, submit a ticket to helpdesk@blueridge.edu.
3. Using the G: Drive:
- You can create new folders, upload files, or transfer files to and from your G: drive.
Basic Operations
- Creating a New Folder:
- In the G: drive window, right-click, select New > Folder, name the folder, and press Enter.
- Transferring Files:
- Drag and drop files to move them to or from the G: drive, or use Copy and Paste as needed.
Benefits of Using the G and H Drive
- Cloud Backup: Files on the G: drive are securely stored in the cloud. If your computer crashes, your files remain safe.
- File Recovery: If you accidentally delete a file, IT can assist in recovering it from the G: drive.
Disadvantage of Using the G and H Drive
- On-Campus Access Required: The G: drive is only accessible while on campus. Off-campus access is unavailable.
Map Network Drive for Mac
1. Open "Finder" on your Mac.
2. In the top menu bar, click on "Go".
3. From the dropdown menu, select "Connect to Server"
4.Type the following to map the network drive:
-For H Drive = smb://hcc-fs1/employees/workgroups
-For G Drive = smb://hcc-fs1/employees/home/k_jimenez (replace with your username).
-Click the + button to add it to Favorite Servers for easy access in the future.
-When needed, you can select the server from your favorites and click Connect.
5.When prompted, enter your Blueridge password to sign in.
