Starting October 24th, 2022, logins to our online student information and registration system, MyBlueRidge will require multifactor authentication.

Starting in January, 2023, logins to our online course system, MyCourses, as well as our online advising system, Watermark (formerly Aviso) will also require multifactor authentication.

What is multifactor authentication?

Multifactor authentication is the process whereby you are prompted to enter a one time code in addition to your username and password in order to login. You might already be familiar with multi factor login if you do online banking or access other sensitive accounts online.

What to you need to do?

You will need to enroll in at least one multifactor authentication method and you will need to be prepared to receive a one time code whenever you access the system using a new device or if it has been more than 30 days since you were prompted for multifactor authentication.

Multifactor Options:

You can chose to enroll one or more devices for multifactor authentication. In general, your multifactor device will either be a cell phone or a landline phone.

  • Microsoft Authenticator App - This method prompts you to approve your login using the touch screen on your smartphone. You do not need to type in a code. This option is supported on both Apple iPhones as well as Android devices. We strongly recommend you consider Microsoft Authenticator as one of your MFA options as that will work even if your phone does not have cellular service.
  • Text message - you can choose to receive a text message to any SMS-capable cell phone. You do NOT need to have a "smartphone" for this option. Your phone will need to have cell service to receive text messages.
  • Phone call - you can chose to receive a phone call to either a cell phone, office phone, or other "landline" phone. You will need to have cell service to receive a voice call or you will need to be near the landline phone.

What if I do not have cellular service?

If you have an Apple or Android-based smartphone, we strongly recommend you use the free Microsoft Authenticator application. You do not need to have cell service for this option. However, your phone will need to be connected via wifi and have Internet access.

What if I need to login from a local area public school and my teacher won't let me use my cell phone?

If you are trying to login from a public school computer or from a device connected to a public school wireless network, you should be able to login without being prompted for multifactor authentication.
