Overview:

The entire Patton building is designed to allow faculty and students to use laptops in all classroom and lab spaces. Therefore, there are no permanent instructor or student computers in any Patton classroom or lab. Instructors will need to bring their own laptop to the classroom to use on the instructor podium. Instructors will also need to either reserve laptops for their entire class or obtain individual laptops as needed for students.

The Patton building currently has a total of 90 laptops dedicated for classroom use. Therefore, it is very likely that faculty will be able to secure sufficient laptops to support their classroom needs. Laptops are distributed throughout the Patton building in IT network closets.

**Note: You must have your employee ID card with you to obtain laptops. **

Self Service Laptop Checkout:

Full time and adjunct faculty members can go to the laptop cart location nearest their classroom (see list above) and use their employee ID card to open the door. The laptop cart will be located right inside the network closet. Depending on the needs of the class, faculty members can take the entire laptop cart to their class or remove individual laptops from the cart.

In order to make this process as easy as possible, we do not currently have a formal check out process. In lieu of a formal sign out process, access to the laptop cart locations are automatically logged by our electronic lock system. In addition, actions are also monitored by security cameras.

Important Notes:

  • Unplug the power connector to the laptop when removing each laptop from the cart
  • Please plug the power adapter into the laptop when placing the laptop back on the cart

Although IT staff will regularly monitor and perform maintenance on all laptops, failing to plug a laptop into power when returning a laptop will almost certainly cause the next person that uses that laptop to be disappointed by the lack of a charged battery.

Class that requires regular use of laptops: Reserve Laptops Using 25Live:

Instructors that have a class in the Patton building that will require consistent and ongoing use of computers for course content should reserve a group of laptops or an entire laptop cart using 25Live in advance. Doing so in advance will help ensure the laptops are available and it will also help us balance the load so that faculty are generally able to obtain laptops from the nearest checkout location.
