Before You Begin

For the smoothest experience, use a:

  • Laptop

  • Desktop

  • Tablet

A smartphone can work, but the screens are smaller and navigation may be harder.

Use a modern browser such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.


1. New Students – First-Time Login Setup


Step 1 – Find Your Welcome Email


After you apply or register for classes, you will receive an email titled “Welcome to Blue Ridge Community College” within about 72 hours, as long as you provided a current email address during registration.

This email includes:

  • Your BRCC email address (username)

  • Your Student ID number

If you cannot find this email:

  • Check your Spam/Junk folder

  • Did you provide a current email at registration?

    • No. Contact the Registrar’s Office at (828) 694-1794 to update your information.

    • Yes. Contact the Helpdesk at (828) 694-1895.


Step 2 – Open the Microsoft Account Portal

Go to: https://myaccount.microsoft.com 

Enter your full BRCC email address, then select Next.


Step 3 – Select “Forgot My Password”

You will be taken to the self-service reset tool. Complete the CAPTCHA when prompted.


Step 4 – Verify Your Identity

Choose one of the verification methods you provided during registration:

  • Mobile phone

  • Alternate email address

Enter the security code that is sent to you.


Step 5 – Create Your New Password

Your password must:

  • Be at least 14 characters long

  • Include uppercase letters

  • Include lowercase letters

  • Include numbers

  • Include symbols

Avoid simple words, personal information, or predictable patterns.


Step 6 – Log In Everywhere

Once the password is set, you can sign in to:

  • Webmail

  • myCourses

  • Self-Service

  • Other BRCC student systems


2. Current / Returning Students – Resetting a Forgotten Password


Step 1 – Go to the Microsoft Account Portal

Visit: https://myaccount.microsoft.com

Enter your full BRCC email address and click Next.


Step 2 – Select “Can’t Access Your Account?”

Choose Work or School Account if the system asks which type. Complete the CAPTCHA.


Step 3 – Verify Using Your Phone or Email

Choose a verification method:

  • Text message

  • Phone call

  • Alternate email

Enter the verification code provided.


Step 4 – Create a New Password

Your password must:

  • Be at least 14 characters long

  • Include uppercase letters

  • Include lowercase letters

  • Include numbers

  • Include symbols

Avoid simple words, personal information, or predictable patterns.


3. Troubleshooting & Common Fixes


No phone or email on file?


The helpdesk cannot update your telephone number for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) unless it is already listed on your account.


To update your telephone number, please follow one of these options:

  1. Complete the Data Change Form: Submit your updated contact information through the Data Change Form.

  2. Call the Registrar’s Office: You can also contact the Registrar’s Office at (828) 694-1794 to request the update.


Once your information has been updated, please get in touch with the helpdesk so they can update your MFA information.



Not receiving the verification code?

Try these:

  • Check your Spam/Junk folder (for codes emailed to you)

  • Ensure your phone accepts short-code text messages

  • Try the “Call me” option instead of text


Account locked or disabled?

Contact the Helpdesk and request account reactivation.


Forgot your BRCC email/username?

The Helpdesk can verify your identity and provide your username.


Security Reminder

BRCC will never ask for your password by:

  • Email

  • Phone

  • Text message

If you receive anything suspicious, notify the Helpdesk.
