Before You Start
- Use this tool for help determining where a file should go - https://blueridge0.sharepoint.com/sites/InfoTech/SitePages/File-Destination.aspx
- Review files/folders and identify files to migrate.
- H Drive
- Make sure your _A1_MigrationFolders are int your typical working folder.
- G Drive
- Google Drive
- H Drive
- Develop the file structure the department wants to use
- OneDrive (each team member determines their own)

- Identify additional sites the department may need and communicate with Amy or Heather
- Work with IT to determine a migration date
- Communicate with IT when team members want to migrate Google Drive files (final deadline Spring 2026)
Step 1: Set Up Files for Migration
- In the [Department] Central H drive folder
- Check pre-migration error scan and address errors while moving your files!!
- _A1_MigrationFolder_Internal
- Create the folders for the new file structure
- Move [Department] Central documents to the appropriate folders
- _A1_MigrationFolder_External
- Create the folders for the new file structure
- Move [Department] Central documents to the appropriate folders
- Organize your G Drive to the planned structure for OneDrive
- In Google Drive, create these folders and move documents to the appropriate folders
- _A1_MigrationFolder_OneDrive
- _A1_MigrationFolder_Internal
- _A1_MigrationFolder_External
Step 2: Move G Drive Files (if applicable)
- Confirm IT has upgraded your computer to Windows 11 with M365 Office and OneDrive for Business installed
- Move G Drive folders and files (drag and drop) to OneDrive.
- The team’s G Drives will be set to archive/ “read only” on the department migration date.
Step 3: Migration Day
- IT will communicate when the file migration begins
- Work with IT if any files or folders have errors in the migration pre-check
- When migration is complete, double check the files

- Navigate to “Documents” in each site and click the Sync button to add the file structure to your computer’s file explorer.

Step 4: Google Drive – Migration
- IT will communicate when the file migration begins
- Work with IT if any files or folders still have errors in the migration pre-check
- When migration is complete, double check the files in the _A1_MigratedFiles folder on the sites.

- Move the files in the _A1_MigratedFiles folder to the appropriate place in your existing folder structure.
