To migrate Google Drive files to M365 or OneDrive, IT must use the Migration Tool because it converts Google file types to their Microsoft version. Otherwise, you will have to download each individual file as the Microsoft file type and upload to your OneDrive.

The overall deadline to migrate Google Drives is April 30, 2026.

Step 1

Sign up for the week you want to migrate your files:

Step 2

Create the folders for the migration at the top of your Google Drive

  • _A1_MigrationFolder_OneDrive
  • _A1_MigrationFolder_Internal
  • _A1_MigrationFolder_External

Step 3

Move your files into the appropriate migration folder. If you are unsure where your files should go, use the File Destination tool to help you decide.

NOTE: The length of the file path and file names matter. They cannot exceed 300 characters. Please avoid deep nesting and long file names.

Step 4

The week that you scheduled your Google Drive migration, IT will reach out to you to identify an exact date and time for the migration.

On that day, IT will run the migration on each of your migration folders. As part of that run, it will pre-scan the folder for errors. We will communicate any errors found and once those are resolved, the folder will be migrated.

Step 5

Check your OneDrive and your teams Internal and External sites for your migrated folder and files. In some cases, you may have to pull the files or folders out of a top level folder and drag/drop them in the existing folder structure where they belong.
